Glutathione
Glutathione is a naturally occurring substance found within human cells.
It is composed of three amino acids — cysteine, glycine and glutamate — and plays an important role in the body’s antioxidant defence systems.
Unlike essential vitamins, glutathione is naturally synthesised by the body.
ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY
One of glutathione’s best-known biological functions is its role as an intracellular antioxidant.
It participates in systems that help protect cells against oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species.
CELLULAR PROTECTION
Normal metabolism naturally generates reactive molecules.
Glutathione participates in cellular pathways that neutralise some of these molecules and helps maintain normal cellular redox balance.
LIVER & NORMAL DETOXIFICATION PATHWAYS
Glutathione participates in biochemical reactions within the liver involved in processing and eliminating certain compounds.
The liver and kidneys continuously perform the body’s normal processing and elimination functions.
GLUTATHIONE & SKIN
Glutathione has attracted considerable interest in relation to pigmentation and skin appearance because of its antioxidant properties and interaction with melanin pathways.
IMMUNE & CELLULAR FUNCTION
Glutathione is involved in numerous cellular processes, including pathways relevant to normal immune-cell function.
